You can find a percentage by creating ratios and proportions.
Percent of a number
Easy Problems
51 yellow ducks in a pond out of 100 birds = 51%
17 blue marbles out of 100 marbles = 17%
23 blue jerses out of 100 = 23%
Medium Problems
6 footballs out of 25 balls = 76%
9 blue pants out of 75 pants = 12%
Percents to Decimals
1. Move the decimal two places to the left
Example:
54% - .54
Percent to Fraction
1. Write the percent as a fraction out of one hundred
2. Simplify if needed
Example:
40% - 40/100 - 2/5
Decimal to Percent
- move decimal two places to the right and then add the percent (%) sign
- add zeros if needed
Example:
.03 - 3%
Fraction to Percent
- make fraction out of one hundred and take the numerator as the percent
3/20 - 15/100 - 15%
Hard Problems
There are 50 bugs.10 die from a bug zapper.2 more come, 12 fly away and 29 are squashed. How what pecent is left. answer 2%
what is 20/80 as a percent? answer 25%
